Description: Momentum dancers join Guest Artist and noted teacher Ruth Weisen of the Thomas Armour Youth Ballet to demonstrate the physical, stylistic and philosophical differences between ballet and modern dance. An audience discussion follows the presentation. This is a great opportunity for everyone who is confused by dance to have their questions answered.

Description: Momentum Dance Company joins Shakespeare Miami for an informal evening of poetry readings and improvisational dance based on sonnets and other poetry by William Shakespeare.

  

 

May 26Film Night. Miami Beach Cinematheque screens the dance classic The Red Shoes. The hard choices the central character must face as she wavers between her personal life and her professional career are still relevant today. Three professional dancers will discuss the difficult personal choices that dancers have to make in today’s professional world. There is limited seating for this event, so buy your tickets in advance!

FILM NIGHT GUEST ARTISTS

DEANNA SEAY danced for twenty one years with the Miami City Ballet after graduating as a student of Melissa Hayden from the North Carolina School of the Arts in 1989. Featured extensively throughout the repertoire, including works by Lynne Taylor-Corbett, Jimmy Gamonet, Twyla Tharp, Paul Taylor, Frederick Ashton and Antony Tudor, she performed a broad spectrum of Balanchine ballets, with roles ranging from the second pas de trois in Agon, and the principal female role in Square Dance, to principal roles in Theme and Variations and Jewels. During her career, in addition to working closely with Edward Villella on many principal roles, she also worked with coaches such as Patricia Neary, Violette Verdy, Allegra Kent, Suzanne Farrell, Maria Calegari, Susan Pilarre, Susie Hendl and Bart Cook. Ms. Seay has also taught in the Miami City Ballet School during the summer and winter programs. She retired from the stage in 2010.

Mikhail Nikitine

Was born in Archangelsk, Russia, and grew up in Samara, Russia where he began his first dancing lessons with a ballroom teacher when he was 6.  A year later he was accepted to a local ballet school at Samara’s Theatre of Opera and Ballet. Five years later he was accepted to the Perm Ballet School where he graduated after six years of training at the age of 18. His first job was in the corps de ballet of Stanislavsky Theatre in Moscow. After participating in a project at Jacob’s Pillow in 1992, he moved to the U.S. and joined the Hartford Ballet as an apprentice becoming a principal dancer the following year. In 1995, he joined Fort Worth Dallas Ballet where he was promoted to a principal dancer in the fall of that year. He danced with Miami City Ballet from 1997-99. After dancing as a principal dancer with Carolina Ballet for five seasons, he rejoined Miami City Ballet in the summer of 2004 as a soloist, becoming a principal dancer the following year. In 2007, he joined Miami Contemporary Dance Company for one season, and then in 2009, co-founded Seanik Arts, a contemporary performance ensemble in Miami.
